Plastic Fury Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 They look great! Honestly, I like how uneven they came out, that looks even better. Hell my two original Lee-Enfield bandoliers are not very even, that stuff was all mass produced so fast back then. I think the way yours turned out makes it look authentic. I have been wondering what to do for the waist and I think I know now. I love the idea of making them myself and just so happens I have to go to Tandy tomorrow to repair one of my Enfield bando's as it's in really rough shape. 1 Quote
cbradshaw007 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 What size are the sam brown buttons? Quote
xalxe Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 A great way to weather the leather is used motor oil after sandpapering. Quote
Arcturus1020 Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 What size are the sam brown buttons? 1/2" (13mm) tall with 7/16" (11mm) diameter base. You can get them here or here. You will also need the anvil to set them. Quote

outrbnkr Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I followed these exact procedures by printing the template out and I am pretty happy with them. I made a few mistakes but I am still happy with them. Here is the belt assembled: Untitled by UrrkUrkurkurk, on Flickr and the darker image is the final coloring: Untitled by UrrkUrkurkurk, on Flickr I appreciate the tutorial and the pattern. Thanks again Arcturus!!! Quote

Ok I will try it I was asking because I tried to build an e11 Blaster with a template which was created for letters and I had invest some work to get it on DIN A4 paper which we use in Germany 😀 Quote
Karpouzian Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I'm kind of leather retarded, do you know what size piece you started with?. I know the weight, I'm more curious to find out how much leather it took... Quote
outrbnkr Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I picked up a "shoulder" from tandy leather. I dont remember the exact size but it was probably a good 3 ft x 3 ft section. I only cut out the pouches with this. I picked up a belt blank from tandy for the belt itself. Quote

I think I used a single shoulder...it was on sale because of the defects in the leather...but if you really wanted to figure out how much leather I used for 7 pouches, I suppose you could print it out 7X and then arrange them all in a similar layout to the image and then measure it that way. I too bought a belt at Tandy. Great work on your waist pouches there Paul! I really like that lighter tan one. 1 Quote
outrbnkr Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Thanks James. I thought the light colored waist pouch looked odd with two dark ones (martini-henry and 1903) but I felt it was more screen accurate. I decided to dye it anyhow. Thankfully these pouches are easy to make with your template that I can make more if need be. You can see that I had some leftover after making the 5 pouches from the shoulder that I wanted made. I suspect I could make another 2 pouches with the leftovers. Untitled by UrrkUrkurkurk, on Flickr I picked up this item when it was on sale for the pouches https://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/99606-347.aspx 1 Quote

Arcturus1020 Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 Do it Mike!!!!I know a few of you have asked me if I'd make these, but it's just not in my plans now or in the future. If you want to buy some though, I know Anthony Bailey is offering them at a great price and a lot of people love them. Quote
UneekTusken Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Great tutorial !! Thanks for sharing !! Quote
Plastic Fury Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I just wanted to post a thank you as well, James. This was a great tutorial that made making these a breeze. I took your advice and did not cut the tongues until after everything dried, however a couple still shrank on me quite a bit and I decided to use the shortest as the ear mark for the rest, so the tongues are shorter than I would have liked, but I am happy with them either way. A squad mate wants me to make a set for him and this time, I will probably add 2" to the template on the tongue end, to compensate. I may dirty them up a bit but I like the look of where they are at, used about 3/4 of a bottle of Neats foot at this point lol. Twisted and folded the leather to make them look worn as well. Thanks again!I love all the helpful people in this detachment, so much creativity! 6 Quote
J@bb@ Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Hey guys need your help. What ist he thickness of the leather you used to build the pouches? In Germany they are offered with the thickness (in mm) and not in oz. thx Chris Quote
Arcturus1020 Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 118-148mm. I used an online converter. Call me crazy, I know.... 1 Quote

Joey Bloodstripes Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Arcturus - I saw your pouches at the Bartlett 4th of July parade last year and absolutely loved them that I have decided to make my own using your template. I needed a longer lasting pouch than my current set that is constantly needing repair. I think they are great if you don't troop as much but I am constantly trooping so I need something that is functional to put trading cards in or even a cell phone and can take some more abuse. I believe I have everything I need. Thanks again for your efforts and I look forward to showing my results. 1 Quote

Arcturus1020 Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 Ok, I think that did it...for some reason or other there was a quote stuck in my reply and I couldn't actually respond to it... Finding the leather and parts shouldn't be too bad down under, should it? I mean, if worse comes to worse, you could always ask one of us state-side to get the parts you need and we can ship them to you! Joey—thanks for the kind words! Yeah, my phone fits perfectly in the pouch and so do the trading cards although with the gloves on, it's kind of a pain to retrieve just one card so I keep a stack of them in hand whenever I dig into the pouch for them. What are your current pouches made out of? Foam? 1 Quote
