outrbnkr Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 I created my Tusken in 2014 and just now looked at the new CRL...how does this line "There may be a single seam up the middle of the back, or seams down the outsides of the arms, but not both." work? When I sewed my robes I had to sew two sections of cloth together at the back and along the side. Is that not considered the outside of the arms? Quote
Nezhdanov Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 Hi, I think what the crl is trying to say is there are a few ways to build the costume as the Tuskens you see in ANH are all a bit different including the outer robe construction. In this image there appears to be a seam running down the back of the Tusken without a rifle. In the below image there appears to be a seam on the shoulder and on the forearm on the left Tusken as you look at the image.I think the crl is trying to say construct the outer robe using one of these methods but not both at the same time.At the start of the crl is also the text ‘This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum’.Crl wording might not be perfect so best to check the source reference media first and think of the crl as a guide[emoji4] Hope that helps!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
outrbnkr Posted April 8, 2024 Author Posted April 8, 2024 Yeah I was thinking they meant over the shoulder but my mind went to the seam that runs from shoulder to floor. Quote
Nezhdanov Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 Yeah it can be a bit confusing. This is what I went with which is pretty straightforward. The photos are a bit low quality.Outer robe joined down the backSewn up to the sleeves at the sides From the crl specifically for the Tusken that attacks Luke there is a slightly different fastening you could use, ‘At 8 inches (20cms) and 12 inches (30.48cms) down from wrist, in opening, two medium-sized snap closures are used to keep the robe sleeve closed.’I don’t know how well this type of fastening holds up under the rigours of trooping with the weight of the fabric etc.You may need to shape or alter the material length of the sleeves to the ground. I’ve found the sleeves can get under your feet when your arms are down so just something to adjust for as needed, it’ll probably come to light as you are making and testing the fit [emoji4]Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
