If KC membership requires a 501st approved costume, what's the best place to discuss/show non-Screen Tuskens?

In case I'm misunderstanding anything, please let me know...

I initially found KC via its status as a 501st detachment and came for research purposes. I would definitely like to recreate an on-screen Tusken one day, but for practice I'll be starting by learning everything on a non-screen build. Nothing crazy compared to what we've seen in the movies and shows but definitely not going for absolute accuracy on everything so that I can learn as I go before putting all that attention and effort into my "masterpiece".

This forum has a ton of great info that applies to any sort of DZ build and I've found other great resources through it, but I'm curious if there's a better place for discussion that's more relevant to inspired Tusken costuming. I understand that what I'm asking about isn't relevant to the 501st and therefor probably also not exactly related to KC either but currently I just don't have anywhere else that this question seems more fitting.

Any info is very welcome, thanks for your time reading.

Hi, if I understand you correctly, you are interested in making a Tusken but a custom one that isn’t specifically from a film or series but eventually you would like to make a Tusken from one of the films or series?

Not sure if there is a good place for discussing the project other than where you have posted in the Tusken section.

As you have probably noticed, where you posted has lots of sections and threads about the various Tusken versions, some of which are ongoing.

I guess there is nothing stopping you getting inspiration from the information there and also from the various costume reference library (CRL) for the various Tusken types. See links below. When you come to build a screen accurate Tusken later on, along with referencing what you see on screen, the crl can help with some areas of the costume.

A New Hope (ANH)

A New Hope (ANH) Cliff Attack

Attack of the Clones Male (AtoC)

Tusken Raider Female (prequel film)

Mandalorian series

Hopefully that’s something to get you started anyway but ask more questions if you need to!

I appreciate all the details, I’ve been reading everything I can so far on here for the last week across all the subforums and CRLs like you’ve mentioned. My OP is a bit hard to read now that I take a second look but you are correct about my build plans, I’ll be doing a non-canon Tusken to learn costume making before focusing on a BOBF build that could hopefully be approved once a CRL is created.

I guess the root of my question would really be: is there a place here for  discussion of non-film/series Tuskens or is the exclusive focus of KC on screen accurate characters?

Just as an example, if there was something like MandoMercs for Tuskens, that’d probably a much better spot to share progress and get inspiration.

Thanks so much again for your helpfulness.

Hi, I don’t think there’s been a discussion area for non canon Tuskens. People will pop off topic type stuff on now and then but generally most who join are working towards getting a costume to clearance level or creating new crls.

You are welcome to start a thread in the Tusken area and post what you are working on and I’m sure members will post comments and can still advise on materials and ways to get the elements made [emoji4]

My advice for making Tuskens is to get the look of the head as best as you can make it as most of the Tusken character is in how the head looks [emoji1303]

Awesome, thank you. I actually do plan to start with an ANH helmet since it'll help inspire me to finish the less iconic (to me) parts of the costume and also seems to be the most well documented. Needless to say, I'm very excited.

Also to do my part in keeping things focused, I'll also make sure to post topics in their most relevant areas such as putting BOBF discoveries from my study there.

Yeah that will be helpful for those working on those bobf costumes as many eyes and minds working on it should lead to a better result or more discoveries!

The appeal of Tuskens for me is the many ways you can go about solving the same problem and still get it to a screen accurate level (if that’s your aim). Some materials are more strict but as for other materials it can be wide open which is helpful for varying budgets and just more fun!

All the best with your project(s)[emoji4]
