Zaazre Rhoq Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Hello! I have created a Tusken Female costume with the intention of joining the 501 here in Edmonton. I am new to forum posting! If i have placed this in the wrong area, my sincere apologies! I used a 3D file for the mask and bracelets but had to do a lot of work on them to get more detail. I have learned a lot from this build! I credit the 3d file maker on my instagram. i included a photo of my reference side by side. I have worked with charities for nearly 10 years. I am hoping to combine my love for all things Star Wars with my love of community service. Any advice you can give that could help me gain acceptance into the Krayt Clan would be so greatly appreciated! Quote
Zaazre Rhoq Posted September 19, 2022 Author Posted September 19, 2022 In order to add the hammered texture to the 3d filese I had to coat everything in glazing compound and dremel in teh details. I also had to cut into the print and reduce the size of some parts. I used Worbla to add extra layer around the mask jewels as well. My photos are too large to upload so I will go away and resize and return with more references. Quote

Nezhdanov Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Welcome! I love to see the female Tusken costume as they are great! Joining up is a good way to support your local community with charity trooping or bringing a bit of Star Wars happiness to people. We can highlight potential areas of costumes that may need altering to get your costume cleared to join the 501st. We won’t be able to guarantee what will meet clearance as your local garrison will decide that. Each costume has a guide known as a crl which has been made by those that know the costume well and this is the one for your costume. Towards the end of the crl there are a few accessories you could add later if you wish.https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TuskenRaiderFemaleI think you have put in a lot of work and have found really good solutions to making the costume. [emoji1303]There are two areas that might be raised as a clearance issues. The first is where the crl states ‘The shawl is made from a tan/sand colored material which is a slightly lighter shade than that of the dress’. Your costume might clear as it is but you might be asked if you are able to lighten the weathering colour of the shawl and darken the skirt to match the film reference a bit more. I think making the skirt darker than the shawls present colour might be too dark. The other area is the crl states ‘A “bib” section with 9 links on either side, Each link has an oval node in the center’. The film reference has 9 too but yours seems to have 10. Again this may not be raised but an option would be to loose one section each side and that would also move the bottom of the mask up a little further from the bottom of the shawl like the film reference. The following is my own personal thoughts so not issues - I would like to see a little more dirt on the bag as yours is a little clean. Depending on how the costume looks if you lighten the shawl and darken the skirt, I think a bit more weathering on the arm wraps could look good. But that’s just me.Could I request a photo of your boots as that would be helpful for others to see, I caught a glimpse of them on your Instagram but I’m not on Instagram so couldn’t look properly. You could try for clearance with you local garrison without making any adjustments and see if they say anything about the shawl / skirt colours and the number of links but it’s just they might raise those.Either way you’ve made a good costume that may or may not need a few adjustments. Let us know how you get on though [emoji16]Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Zaazre Rhoq Posted September 20, 2022 Author Posted September 20, 2022 So incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time out to advise! You really confirmed many of my internal thoughts. I’ll grab a shot of the boots and upload as a I follow up! 1 Quote
Zaazre Rhoq Posted September 26, 2022 Author Posted September 26, 2022 Here is a boot photo. I am learning to use a compress photo app. Not having a good time with that! Any recommendations on a way to resize pics for upload? Thank you! Still working hard on revisions! Quote
Nezhdanov Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Hi, thanks for the image of the boots, they look well made and to me seem to match the crl requirements and the incredibly brief appearance in the film.I’m sure you will be fine with any adjustments you are working on and it will be good to see the results when you’re ready [emoji1303]As for the photos, photo uploads can be a bit tricky. I use a forum app called Tapatalk which I use for the various Star Wars forums like my local garrison and this detachment forum. You can upload from the photos on your phone so I crop the photos on my phone then add to a thread. It gives an option of small medium and large upload and small is usually good enough for a good image. It’s not for everyone, it displays the forums in a certain way, it’s yet another app with adverts but I’ve found it useful.People use other methods for uploading images to sites such as imgur but I don’t know much about this method.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
