DesertWarriorDiana Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Hi, I submitted my BoBF Tuscan Warrior but found out there is no current crl for her so, as suggested, I'm here to help the process along. What can I do? Quote
M.J. Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Hello Diana and Welcome! There are number of us building the Warrior, It would be great if you create a build thread and show us what you used and your reference photos. There is a few things the staff noticed with yours when Jenn our DL showed us your work but I'm jumping ahead we are looking for a member to be a CRL. Though they will have to fit to the write up the Detachment staff and members agree on. We've been working out the fabrics in a previous thread, so you input would be great. Quote
DesertWarriorDiana Posted September 7, 2022 Author Posted September 7, 2022 Updated: bull denim skirt, wrapped legs; (pants), gauze arm wraps and helmet strips of bull denim and mohair. Quote
M.J. Posted September 7, 2022 Posted September 7, 2022 (edited) Hi ya Diana, Your leg wraps aren't quite right. I showed the fabric that is around her legs and arms, the ones you have around her legs are not the same, here is a photo from the display at Celebration to help you. We call it cotton cheese cloth here (Australia) , Lucy mentioned its called Cotton Gauze from where she is and another lass Carol mentioned it is was Crinkle cotton from her end of the world. So it does come in different names though: Check the Black fabric thread under the same sub section here. (photo of the fabric can be found there) Edited September 7, 2022 by M.J. Quote

DesertWarriorDiana Posted September 9, 2022 Author Posted September 9, 2022 Oh, ok. I see it. Thanks! Looks like a little more revision and another photo. Time to rip up more fabric. Quote
DesertWarriorDiana Posted September 11, 2022 Author Posted September 11, 2022 Ok, another rev. Changed the leg wrappings to the black gauze. Quote
M.J. Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 (edited) Diana doing good, you’ve got the format of character. what we will be looking at is where parts sit, you can be short or tall and make the costume look good on you. The shawl is too long, there is no space between the belt and top like that in the character also the panels have different shades, one has stripes. Your grey on your sleeves is too light, they need to blend in. Top of beads too messy. neck seal/wrap too big this are just a few things I noticed. We need a working written CRL, if you wish to start one that would be great, this will highlight areas you missed and achieved what your looking for. we all here to help. DesertWarriorDiana Posted September 19, 2022 Author Posted September 19, 2022 Ok, I made changes. So, the light grey is gone, just greyed up the black, cleaned up the bead top, made a new shawl, and changed the neck seal. I took a photo of just the shawl to show detail. The lighting sometimes makes it hard to see the details. Quote
gSkruBg Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Looking pretty good! Getting the CRL going is tough, but we all appreciate it! I have a few things that I feel would make the overall look of the costume feel more authentic and less like a costume: Firstly, the whole thing needs to be roughed up and weathered a bit. Especially the strips of fabric hanging from the helmet. They need to be majorly frayed and ragged. The arm and leg wraps also need to look more dusty and sun-bleached. Secondly, it could definitely be a camera thing, but the snout wrappings on your helmet look too be too similar to the inner leather of the mouth. The leather wrappings in the show were very clearly a lighter or moderate brown, but yours appear dark brown or black. See what a bit of sandpaper could do for the coloring! Could be an easy fix. Lastly, and it pains me to even be saying this, but your Hemet shape and size don't seem quite right. If you compare what you currently have to the references, the "crest" of your helmet is too high, giving it a taller forehead and possibly causing the other problem, which is that the helmet looks too big. I'm not sure what you used for the base of the helmet, but it needs to be trimmed down and shortened so that you clearly have a neck. As it stands, your shoulders directly end in bottom of your helmet, making the neck scarf look a bit awkward. Overall though, the outfit is looking really good! Hopefully these few observations won't be a major problem to fix. I look forward to seeing your future versions! Quote
M.J. Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Jared has given you some great advice there. I've had some feed back from Tusken DCA , just as Jared pointed out your helmet is not proportioned to your size its quite big, which also points out the square part on top. They also pointed out the beads, you have some of the correct ones but their placement is too tight and no chain, or that we cant see. We will be looking at levels for this one, as many of the parts members cannot access in other parts of the world, again we haven't hashed that out as yet. I feel you with the helmet, when I was making my boushh I did have a helmet though being the same size as Carrie it looked huge on me, so I was in search for a smaller one, I'm happy I did. I have two Boushh helmets, one I keep on display. It happens Quote
M.J. Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 sorry forgot to mention, these are also in the beaded apron, they are on ebay, and most likely not as expensive for you as they where for me, These beads are a big part of the display. the neck lace has the correct amount of beads on them, ( did a count). I've also notice a few of our members are painting the long beads to look like these as well. Quote
DesertWarriorDiana Posted September 22, 2022 Author Posted September 22, 2022 Hi. Thanks for all the great input. Lots more work to do! I do have chains on the beads. Hard to see on the photo. I painted the long beads, too. Hard to see that. Working on the helmet...(sigh) the hardest part so far. I'll post more photos when I'm done with another revision. I stripped down the helmet and working on the shape. Any suggestions? Thanks+ Quote

My only suggestion is to note that you don't have to completely restart the helmet. If you cut a couple inches out of the sides and around the crown, you could achieve a smaller helmet without too much work, ideally only having to redo the wraps. Alternatively, you could sell the completed helmet for a premium (I'm sure someone would love to get their hands on it), and use the extra funds to restart from scratch, then pocket the remainder. Extra work, but I've found this method keeps down the costs of an otherwise exorbitant hobby. Quote
M.J. Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Diana, I just checked on ebay there is one of these left $23US just use the wording "Choker Necklace Four Row Brown/White Stripe Bone Hairpipe Native american style" I know its a bugger, we've all been there the stories I could tell ya. Trust me once you've finished it you will be pleased. I'm just collecting everything atm for this character, so I have pieces in a tub, next year .. could be late next year, I have a fairy in pieces I need to make first. You got this take your time. M.J. Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Diana, I've started the research and the write up. I would highly suggest to help with the write up as you may notice some differences, one I just picked up is your pouch, its a little too long and I cant see the black one. These are not like our Jawa's they must be correct in size. When I made the Off world jawa I later created one to match the main jawa (making it accurate) in the show down to neck lace designed by my partner, I located the correct pouches, this is the detail we need to be looking at. It did take me some time and I scored them from over the other side of the world took 5 months in postage. The pouches she has can be made they are small and neat. I'm going to post up the first draft just on the helmet but would love some advice from those that have made her, leaving out fabric as we still chatting about it. Quote
DesertWarriorDiana Posted September 23, 2022 Author Posted September 23, 2022 Thanks! More great advice. Now I have ideas for the helmet, I can scale down the pouches and I ordered the necklace. I guess I know what I'll be busy doing this weekend! Also, maybe I can write up some stuff, too. Quote
M.J. Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) oh yes please!!!! I haven't made it so I'm not sure of size and so forth, I have started the CRL write up (Helmet) and tried eyeballing it, a little different to the male Tuskens The breather I'm up to and that is different to the Male tuskens been getting input from the Tusken DCA (very clueless when it comes to Tuskens) and they showed me some thinkverse stuff. DesertWarriorDiana Posted October 12, 2022 Author Posted October 12, 2022 Hi. Still working on stuff. Ordered all the new beads I need for the apron, took the mask down to the 'skin' and reworked the shape, remade both pouches, and, yeah, more details. Waiting on the beads now and will take a few new photos soon. I hope. 1 Quote
DesertWarriorDiana Posted November 5, 2022 Author Posted November 5, 2022 I've been working on the beads, belt and pouches, and helmet and weathering it all. I have a question about the beads. Ok, so I redid the spacing. How does it look? I put it on my form so it doesn't have the pants or arm wraps...of course, lol, it doesn't have arms or legs. Anyway, I wanted your opinion before I put all the chain on. Quote
M.J. Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 Dianna, I think your little beads on the sides and middle are a little big, I've been looking for those and the right size And yes the spacing is little wide I was counting and I know your've done research too For others reading this Row 2 littlebeads, 2 with gold, 2 little beads, 3 with gold, 2 little beads, 3 with gold, 2 little beads, 2 with gold and then 2 little beads Correct me if I'm wrong Dianna, you showing us this is teaching as well. I think your doing a stella job Quote
DesertWarriorDiana Posted November 5, 2022 Author Posted November 5, 2022 Thanks! I got the smaller beads now I need to retie them closer. They were spaced just a little bit before but it was too much of a gap. The pouches have been redone, the helmet issue worked on and lots more weathering...getting closer, I think! More photos soonly, I hope! Quote
M.J. Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 Being in Australia, getting the ones sent from overseas that match those, the postage is three times the product so I'm searching out locally not having much luck though went the local Market today and found some that are close Quote
