prisoner1138 Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 As I start my journey to becoming a Tusken, I thought I'd show my respirator build. I'm enamored with props and scratch building, so this was a perfect start for me. Quote
prisoner1138 Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 To start off, here's the raw materials: Found some Flare Nuts at Home Depot in the plumbing area. Michaels had the leather wrap. Walmart had the tomato paste can, and a couple of perfectly-sized lids from these travel cocoa butter bottles, and, to create the tapered area to the can, Walmart also produced these suction hooks. Just take the suction cup and hook off. After that, all I needed was paint and a 1/4" metal bar from Home Depot. Quote
prisoner1138 Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 Emptied out the can with holes in both ends. Assembled the parts and laid down the base metallic paint. It was most likely something from the Rustoleum family. 1 Quote
prisoner1138 Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 Started up some details paint work with some decent acrylics. Umbers, browns, and blacks got the effect I was going for. 1 Quote
prisoner1138 Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 Wrapped the leather and added some paint weathering. 1 Quote
prisoner1138 Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 The middle bump is one of the leather trimmed pieces, and I made sure the top wrap flap is visible. Added the metal bar, a few more spots of weathering and Voila! I can't wait to get started on the next part of this costume! 7 Quote
RoCKo Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 That's gorgeous! I really dig the idea with the tomato can plus these suction hooks! Ingenious! And the weathering is stunning! Quote
