TrainWreck's 3D printed gaffi kit (in pictures).

So this will seem odd but the first photos of the spear being built are of my MK2 spear point while the later photos are of the completed gaffi has my MK1 spear on it.  So that is why it looks a little off.

The spear is designed to slide onto a 1/4" steel rod and both the spear and the pineapple slot into a 1" PVC pipe (2 feet long).  All seems are super glued and filled with Bondo spot and glazing putty.  I did an auto primer coat followed by a mix of browns and blacks followed by a glossy clear coat.  This has not been weathered yet.

I'm thinking about doing a short run on here in a month or so so keep your eyes peeled if your interested.

...and now pictures:

...and this is the "con" spear tip.  Both tips will need the edges sanded down a little so it will sit snug in the chamber.  It is totally possible to do this so that the points are interchangeable.

The holes for the steel rod are a tad too tight so they need to get opened up a bit with a quarter inch bit.

Make sure the steel rod doesn't go all of the way into the square chamber for the spear tips.

Awesome!!! The only concern I'd have are what happens when those fins break off? How sturdy is this material? It looks freaking awesome though!!!

PLA is wicked strong. Also ABS filament is strong too! If it breaks, print another one!!

It's in PLA.  As it so happens I had an extra of the MK1 spear point printed I wasn't doing anything with so I hope this video helps.  Long story short you would actually have to work at breaking them off.  You'll here some snapping in the video but the fins held on.  The only thing I managed to do was warp them:

That looks awesome, I've been thinking of doing a new Gaffi and your project has me convinced to do it.

I noticed you using a screw driver to take off the raft, I use small wood carving chisels to clean up my 3d prints. The screw driver was too much of a hassle so I went and got a medium priced set with multiple shaped ends that fit every angle. Works like a charm!

That's awesome! I've recently acquired a printer and was thinking of going this route for a gaffi stick. Did you make the stl files yourself?
