Cloth for Jawa robe

Recommended Posts

Hello@all

sry if i ask this again (think it has been asked several times) but i have search 2 weeks and had also no luck at 2 cloth stores.

So i found this one http://www.ikea.com/at/de/catalog/products/80026020/ its made of 100% cotton and 315g/m², it also looks to me like the monk cloth style it should be.

Would you say this will work for an Jawa ? Or do you have an better option for me ? :)

Thank you
best regards

Alexander

Hi Alexander,

OOOhh I tried to have a good look, it looks ok, but of course I do hate it when you can't feel it.

It will shrink being Cotton, and it should dye pretty well.

Sorry I don't have a better option. I know its hard being in different countries, we are also having issues with locating fabric here too.

I used the braun MINNA fabric for the flakvest of my future mandalorien merc. It's a nice think and sturdy fabric but I think the weave looks to similar to denim to work for a Jawa. I saw another IKEA fabric that I though would work for a jawa or a tusken raider when bought the MINNA. I think it was LENDA and/or AINA but I'm not a 100 percent sure. LENDA is a cotton fabric and AINA is a linen fabric. I used linen for one of my jawas and upholstery fabric for two others.

LENDA http://www.ikea.com/at/de/catalog/products/10120634/

AINA http://www.ikea.com/at/de/catalog/products/30196944/

Hallo @all,

I'm searching now 3 weeks or more for the right cloth, i'm from Austria and its not as easy as i thought to get the right cloth.
I know the original cloth were coffee bags but the problem ist i can't get them in the size for my girlfriend so we/she start searching for alternatives. A german garrison member told me that he will take this cloth:

http://www.ikea.com/at/de/catalog/products/30196944/

the photo i have attached is here in the 240g/running meter cord realy looks cool but TOO light (as you can see on the pic with my girlfriend)

So wie bought it and after we washed it tried it and in our opinion its to light for a Jawa robe/hood. It is 240g/runnning meter, yesterday my girlfriend found this:

http://www.ebay.at/itm/natur-LEINEN-als-Rohware-nicht-gefarbt-od-gewaschen-klassische-Meterware-/191799833341?hash=item2ca82932fd:g:ivEAAOSwJb9WtKYJ

This is also cord but with 360g/running meter so it should be heavyer and it looks like monk cloth for me, see screenshot.

natur-171550a.jpg

Can an expert tell me if i can use the second cloth ? would be great.. i'm bit frustrated at the momet

In this picture we have testet AINA and its in my opinion TOO light.

Great thanks

Alexander

LG Alexander

Patricia I will let you handle this :) I can't understand a word you two are saying.

Just a tip, it can be on the lightish side as long as it falls right (flowing down) and not see through :)

Upps, sorry M.J., I didn't want to leave you out of the conversation. :-) It was just easier to answer him in German, our common native language. I think I can help him find a good fabric somewhere in Austria, Germany or Switzerland.

Yes, we are very lucky but many of my future English students won't see it that way. Germans students/pupils have to learn at least one foreign language at school. Some students/pupils even have to learn two or three foreign languages. Mine were English and French. English was easy for me because it is my second native language. I also had some old Greek at university.

Hy @ all;

has anyone ever here Monc Cloth ordered by Fabric.com or any other dealer in the Internet?
If so, what is your experience? Grams per meter, I see nowhere in the specifications.

Since I'm a new Jawa near looking for High excellent Monc Cloth. Who has experience with it?

Thanks and regards
Stefan

Hi from Germany!

I got this sample, would this work for a Jawa robe? It is 100% cotton and heavy (880g/m respectively 560 g / m² ) :

Well I would need to dye it, but should not be a problem for cotton, right?

Hi ya Dani,

When Dying Cotton it will shrink and make sure you get the dye made for Cotton, the thread looks good.

Check out all the thread here in this forum about dying, its not easy, I hate it.

Don't forget to wash before dying too.

good luck!

Thanks for the help Kelly! The cloth is already pre-shrunk (sanforized), so there should be no or only very little further shrinkage...

I used this, already in the perfect brown: https://www.onlinefabricstore.net/brown-monks-cloth-fabric-.htm

Regardless of your fabric, but especially with cotton, wash it before you do any cutting or measuring, it will likely shrink or change in some way.

I was looking at that cloth, too. So that will pass the costume standard?

Miles yes it will.

Just remember what Rebecca said, you must Pre-wash before cutting. The cloth will shrink a good 15%

What is the most screenaccurate fabrik for a ANH Jawa right now? Any updates?

I contacted clothears but they have other projects going on...

Is there still no substitute for the inaccurate monks cloth? I've searched the internet but couldn't find anything close to whats seen on screen...

Hi ya Roger,

The robe is more of a knitted blanket type and most likely ordered from a factory specialising in woven garments. I doubt anyone has this product for sale that we can find, we can only find  what can come close.

It is an open weave wool.

Yeah, i did some very intensive research in the last few years and nothing i came across was even close to the screenused cloth.

I, at some point, thought about doing a group order of custom made cloth but as i don't have the time nor knowledge i put that idea out of my mind!   :?

I contacted Clothears since they had a sample that looked promising but their Jawa project is unfortunatly on hold for an indefinite period of time...
