I am starting this thread to keep track of my research into Lirin Car'n.

Background:  Lirin Car'n was an unidentified Bith that was seen in the cantina during  ANH and was played by Don Beswick, a costume and make-up artist.  Don Beswick did not receive screen credit for this portrayal.  I think this was one of the aliens added in Hollywood and not part of the original aliens as filmed in London.  With the release of EU content, we learned the Bith was named Lirin Car'n and that he was a mercenary that was also a backup player for the Modal Nodes.

Costume:  This part may be the hardest part at this point because Lirin is seated between other aliens and is only on screen for a short bit.  As I find new images I will post them here.

Thank you very much.  I still have a long road ahead, especially trying to find enough pictures to show all of the costume.

What happens when there are no pictures of the legs/feet?  Is the costume then disallowed?

I would assume (could Todd, Paul and Kellie weigh in here) that you should use the other Bith as reference since this is a well documented species.

I hated to use the word "assume."  The only shots I can find of the guy is with him between other cantina aliens and sitting at a table.  But I figure the CRL could read:  "Must be seated at all times between a Talz and a ..."

Thanks for the input darthgrace.  I haven't given up the hunt for more back stage pictures but since the jackboots were used for so many characters in the movie and the cantina band, it isn't too far out of reason that this guy wore them also.

So let me ask a question...if Lucasfilms approves something, does that count as official for colors and such?   I have been reluctant to include another link because it isn't coming out of the movies proper, however, a non-Lucasfilm entity was contracted to make a video in which they included Lirin Car'n.  In the behind the shoot pictures they show him standing up.

Please share thoughts on this.  If everyone thinks this is an acceptable source, then I believe I have enough to build this character for submission...but I don't want to get too excited too quickly.

Is this costume in Richard Pryor's Star Bar video?

I chatted with someone at Tom Spina Designs today about the Bith and unfortunately they are not allowed to share any of the images they used to recreate the Bith for their costumes due to a non-disclosure agreement with Lucasfilm.  But, I think this helps lend some weight to their images and the videos that used their props.  Thoughts?

I was recently given another piece of information regarding the robe/tunic Lirin Car'n is wearing.  This same outfit was used for Chachi De Maal (aka Baniss Keeg), one of the two Duros filmed in the Hollywood portion of the cantina scenes.  When looking at images of that Duros, you can see some better looks at seams, length and material.  I also think this outfit goes without a belt or sash.

Here is a 2004 screen capture from the Star Wars Databank identifying Lirin Car'n by name and as a member of the Modal Nodes.  The link doesn't show his picture.  The link also mentions that these characters were all created in Hollywood after shooting in England completed.

I have but I keep forgetting to add any pictures here.  I have completed the soft parts of the costume for this guy now, just waiting on the mask and gloves to get in before i post any completed pictures.

Greedo has the same problem. :)  The "Greedo clones" in Docking Bay 94 were used as reference, since they were essentially the same costume.

I submitted the official request to add this character to the 501st along with all the appropriate pictures and a draft CRL through my GML.  Anyone know how long the discussion/decision making process is to add a costume to the list of approved costumes list?

I dug through all my old stuff and found the 1995 Decipher card for Lirin Car'n.  Not sure if this is the first time the guy gets a name or not.  16141771431_7d0182b56c.jpgUntitled by UrrkUrkurkurk, on Flickr

I also looked Lirin Car'n up in the old Star Wars Encyclopedia by Steven Sansweet (1997).
